POLY-BORE® is a partially hydrolyzed polyacrylamide polymer (EPSP) with a very high molecular weight. When mixed with fresh water, a small amount of POLY-BORE® provides a clear, viscous, solids-free stabilizing liquid for use in auger wells, horizontal directional drilling, trenching and reverse circulation (RC) drilling.
Recommended treatment
Construction applications
- Add 3 to 10 pounds (1.4 to 4.5 kilograms) of POLY-BORE® dry polymer slowly to the mixing hopper with 1,000 gallons (3.8 m³) of fresh water. (See general instructions below).
- Reverse circulation drilling
- Add 0.5 to 1 lb (0.2 to 0.5 kg) of POLY-BORE dry polymer slowly through the mixing hopper with 100 gallons (0.38 m³) of fresh water. (See general instructions below).
General instructions
Continue mixing for a further 15-20 minutes to allow the POLY-BORE® to hydrate.
- If POLY-BORE® is added directly to a tank with paddle-type mixers, make sure the freshwater level is above the paddles. Add POLY-BORE® slowly to the vortex created by the paddle movement.
- Measure the funnel viscosity of the polymer paste and adjust to required specifications.
Notes :
- The make-up water used to mix POLY-BORE® must have the following qualities:
- total chloride less than 1500 ppm (mg/L)
- total hardness below 150 ppm as for calcium
- total chlorine less than 100 ppm
- Water pH between 8.5 and 9.5
- Reduce total hardness of make-up water by adding 1 to 2 pounds (0.45 to 0.9 kg) of soda ash (sodium carbonate) per 1,000 gallons (3.8 m³) of make-up water. (Do not add in excess, as over-treatment can cause adverse effects and reduce drilling fluid performance).
- POLY-BORE® can be chemically decomposed with ordinary liquid bleach (5% sodium hypochlorite). Use one gallon of bleach for every 100 gallons (10 litres/m³) of POLY-BORE® liquid. Do not use perfumed bleach or solid calcium hypochlorite.
Packaging
POLY-BORE® is available in 14 lb (6.35 kg) plastic containers.
